Description
St. Albertus, Detroit, a non-functioning Polish-Catholic church in a very run-down section of Detroit.
You can't see it in this photo, but a good amount of the plaster was cracking and crumbling and in my other photo, you can see it cracking off the ceiling. The decay of such a gorgeous building would not be allowed in Europe, but unfortunately, Detroit doesn't care much about its history...
~Shibby84 and I went to the church when I found out about a festival being held by the volunteers of St. Albertus to raise funds for the next year. They're not part of the diocese since they're not a functioning church so any money they bring in is donated. This year was more important than usual because copper thieves climbed to the roof and did a couple thousand dollars worth of damage to the roof, removing copper sheeting to sell at a fraction of its worth at a scrap yard. They were arrested on their second nighttime visit but the damage was done...
